Chiefs to host sleeper 1,000-yard rusher known for hurdling defenders at upcoming local pro day…TS.DHUNG.

Concordia University, St. Paul's Jaylin Richardson leaps over a mix of University of Sioux Falls players on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Bob Young Field in Sioux Falls. Usf Vs Csp 007

The Kansas City Chiefs will host their annual local prospect day in April, and some invites have already begun to be revealed.

Each year, the Chiefs invite several local area prospects who attended either a local high school or university to the team facility for an organized workout ahead of the NFL draft. This allows prospects one last opportunity to impress the coaches and scouts in Kansas City. For many small school prospects, it’ll be their lone audition in front of decision-makers and earn undrafted free agent opportunities.

A few players who attend the pro day always seem to end up on the team in some capacity. Last year’s most notable was Kansas State long snapper Randen Plattner, who filled in for an injured James Winchester during the final week of the preseason. Another fellow K-State Wildcat who attended the local pro day last year, Phillip Brooks, made it through training camp but was released during the team’s 53-man roster cuts.

Some players do stick around, too. Just look at former UAB TE Gerrit Prince, who attended the team’s local pro day in 2022 and spent the entire 2023 NFL season on the Chiefs’ practice squad, earning a Super Bowl LVIII ring.

Concordia RB Jaylin Richardson to attend Chiefs’ local pro day

A Kansas City, Kansas native who attended FL Schlagle High School, Richardson spent four years at Division II’s Concordia University in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Listed at 6-foot and 205 pounds, Richardson earned First Team All-NSIC Honors for two consecutive seasons. During that span, Richardson appeared in 22 games, recording 431 carries for 2,099 yards and 20 rushing touchdowns, adding 42 catches for 370 yards and one receiving touchdown. As a senior in 2024, he averaged 105 rushing yards per game.

Richardson dominated in D-II, which is necessary at that level to earn an opportunity in the NFL. He was a multifaceted athlete for the Bears team, not just in the running and receiving game but also contributing on special teams throughout his career. He’s also earned a good reputation for his willingness to hurdle defenders in the open field.

We’ll see if he can make an impression at One Arrowhead Drive next month.
