Micah Parsons Brushes Off ‘Ridiculous’ Criticism From DeMarcus Lawrence.D

Micah Parsons Fires Back at DeMarcus Lawrence’s ‘Ridiculous’ Criticism

Parsons Dismisses Doubts About His Commitment Micah Parsons, the star linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys, has never been one to shy away from controversy. After weeks of silence, he finally responded to former teammate DeMarcus Lawrence’s pointed remarks about his priorities and focus on the field. In an interview with longtime Cowboys reporter Clarence Hill, Parsons firmly rejected the idea that his off-field activities interfere with his performance, calling the accusations “ridiculous.”

A War of Words Between Former Teammates Tension between the two former teammates escalated after Lawrence, now with the Seattle Seahawks, made comments questioning the Cowboys’ ability to win a Super Bowl. While Lawrence acknowledged Dallas as his “home,” he also stated that he knew “for sure” that he would never win a championship there. Parsons, taking to social media, fired back by calling Lawrence a “clown,” igniting a heated exchange. Lawrence retaliated by implying that Parsons spends more time tweeting than focusing on football.

Parsons Defends His Work Ethic In his interview, Parsons made it clear that his dedication to the game should never be questioned. “You watch the tape. There’s no question I’m locked in. I’m giving my actual best effort out there on the field, which I think is all that matters,” Parsons stated. He emphasized that his primary obligation is to his family, ensuring he provides for them while maintaining his love for off-field ventures.

Balancing Football and Off-Field Interests Parsons has gained a reputation not just as a dominant force on the field but also as an outspoken and media-savvy athlete. With over 500,000 followers on X (formerly Twitter) and his own show, The Edge with Micah Parsons, in partnership with Bleacher Report, he has successfully built a brand outside of football. In May 2024, he was even named the President of B/R Gridiron, a subsection of Bleacher Report dedicated to NFL coverage.

However, he insists that his extracurricular activities do not affect his game-day performance. “Everyone has their way of dealing with things. Some people drink. Some people smoke. I like to tweet. I like to be active and know about ball,” he explained. “I don’t drink. I don’t smoke. What I care about is the effort you give me on the football field, and that’s something you can’t question.”

Pushing Back Against Critics Parsons took the opportunity to call out the hypocrisy in his critics’ arguments. “When you jump offside on the goal line, is that because I’m tweeting?” he asked, making it clear that mistakes on the field are a personal responsibility, not a result of someone else’s social media activity. “I think it’s ridiculous, outrageous.”

Future with the Cowboys in Question? Despite being one of the NFL’s top defensive players, Parsons is entering the 2025 season under the fifth-year option of his rookie contract, set to earn approximately $24 million. While he has engaged in preliminary contract discussions with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, no official extension has been offered yet, according to NFL Network’s Jane Slater.

With his contract situation still uncertain, Parsons remains focused on proving his worth on the field. Whether or not he continues his career in Dallas long-term, one thing is clear: he won’t let outside noise dictate his game.
