UPDATE: Phillies Get Positive Update From Ken Rosenthal on Possible Mike Trout Trade…TS.DHUNG.

For Philadelphia Phillies fans, it’s become an annual tradition to try to find ways to get Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout in a trade. While nothing has come of it, the Philadelphia fans would love a local product coming home.

In an article for The Athletic, Ken Rosenthal details a variety of star players who could be available at the 2025 MLB Trade Deadline. Sandy Alcantara and Luis Robert Jr. are two of the headliners, but Rosenthal highlights Trout as an option.

If Trout stays healthy enough to at least force the issue for Los Angeles Angels owner Arte Moreno, the deadline might be even more interesting than usual. Assuming Moreno, who operates according to his own whims, is willing to play along.

Trout has been with the Los Angeles Angels his entire career, and a move would be a major shift. However, Rosenthal’s call that Trout is one of the three biggest names who could be moved is great news for the Phillies.

A right-handed outfield bat is something that the Phillies have been looking for. While Trout may no longer be the player he once was, he shows flashes of an elite player when healthy.

If Trout stays healthy before the trade deadline and the Phillies still need outfield help, they might take a big swing to land the superstar.

Rosenthal highlighted several challenges in a potential trade of Trout. His health remains a primary concern, but other factors are also in play. Trout holds a full no-trade clause, and he turns 34 in August.

Any team acquiring Trout, including the Phillies, would take on a significant financial commitment. He is owed $35.45 million per season, with $177.25 million remaining on his contract from 2026 to 2030.

Moreover, a trade would require a major financial investment and likely a significant prospect haul.

Despite the risks, the Phillies’ recent playoff shortcomings could push them to explore a move for Trout as a way to get over the hump and contend for another World Series title.

His ties to the Philadelphia area and passion for the Eagles, whose games he regularly attends, would make him an instant fan favorite.

While a trade remains unlikely, Rosenthal mentioning Trout as a name to watch as the deadline approaches is an encouraging sign for Phillies fans hoping to see him in red pinstripes.
