The Philadelphia Phillies have World Series aspirations and may need to make some trades to achieve them. They could target an All-Star outfielder at the deadline.
The trade deadline is always full of surprising moves. FOX Sports’ Rowan Kavner predicted that the Phillies would make a trade with the Chicago White Sox to land Luis Robert Jr.
Robert himself was surprised he was still on the White Sox when opening day rolled around. The White Sox traded Garrett Crochet but held on to Robert, who signed a six-year, $50 million deal in 2020. He is due $15 million this season and has $20 million club options for 2026 and 2027.
“Honestly, no,” Robert responded to 670 The Score’s Chris Emma when he asked if he expected to be on the White Sox opening day roster. “I know there were a lot of rumors around there. I didn’t think I would be here. But I’m glad that I’m here…. This was the organization that gave me the chance to make my dream come true, and this is the organization that I know.”
Robert struggled last season after an All-Star campaign in 2023. That was the first season he played more than 100 games. He has dealt with injuries throughout his career but is one of the best players in baseball when healthy.
He would fill a big need for the Phillies in the outfield. He is still 27 years old and could be a part of the Phillies’ future as well. Most importantly, he could help them win a stacked division and finally win the World Series.
