Patrick Mahomes and the Dream Come True: The Kansas City Chiefs’ Perfect Draft Shaped the NFL’s Future.

The Kansas City Chiefs were on their way to pulling off a three-peat when they were going into the Super Bowl back in February. They were taking on a familiar opponent in the Philadelphia Eagles, who had they beaten two years ago in the Super Bowl so you would think that maybe history would repeat itself, right? Nope, infact another repeat of history was made.

When the Chiefs took on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Super Bowl back in 2021, we all saw what happened to Patrick Mahomes when the Bucs were constantly getting to help and forcing pressure onto him. He looked out of sync and the Chiefs stood no chance at beating Tampa Bay.

Kansas City Chiefs Take Wide Receiver Matthew Golden in Latest NFL Mock Draft - Newsweek

Just under two months ago, Mahomes had to re-live that nightmare scenario when the Eagles made his life hectic for all four quarters. There are now two examples that shows that if you can create a consistent pass rush when going up against the Chiefs, Mahomes is going to struggle.

As for the Chiefs, this should be a wake up call for them. They are heading into 2025 with receivers Xavier Worthy and Marquise “Hollywood” Brown again, as well as their future Hall of Famer tight end in Travis Kelce. They went out and signed former 49ers backup offensive tackle Jaylen Moore, but that still may not be enough for Kansas City.

They can’t afford to put Mahomes in jeopardy of being roughed up in 2025, despite Moore having learn from Trent Williams. With the Chiefs having the No. 31 overall pick, there is only one position that the Chiefs should zone in on.

Sayre Bedinger from NFL Spin Zone recently dropped a four-round mock draft and Kansas City managed to land the perfect protector for Mahomes. With the 30th overall pick in Bedinger’s mock draft, the Chiefs select offensive tackle Kelvin Banks out of Texas.

Banks can line up either at tackle or guard, providing versatility to Kansas City’s offensive line. In addition, it’s another body to protect the franchise in hopes of getting another Lombardi trophy added to the case.

The Chiefs cannot afford to ignore providing protection for Mahomes. That seems to be his kryptonite, seeing as how on the biggest stage of the season, he has been destroyed twice because of the lack of protection up front. Getting a guy like Banks not only gives the Chiefs an extra blocker, but it also gives them protection if the Jaylen Moore experiment doesn’t work out.
