The Ohio State Buckeyes have numerous players expected to be drafted into the NFL later this month, with defensive end JT Tuimoloau standing out as one of the most promising prospects. Tuimoloau was a powerhouse for Ohio State last season, amassing 61 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, and 12.5 sacks.
He was a constant threat during the Buckeyes’ journey to a national championship, recording 5.5 sacks in the College Football Playoff. At 21 years old, he is largely seen as a Day 2 pick in the draft, with Jacob Infante from Pro Football Network forecasting his selection by the Green Bay Packers in the second round.
“Lukas Van Ness still holds promise as a young edge rusher who was a first-round choice, but given his sluggish start in the NFL, adding another rotational defender would be wise for the Packers,” Infante stated. “JT Tuimoloau is an exceptional athlete with immense strength, impressive short-range agility, and relentless energy, making him a formidable opponent opposite Rashan Gary.”
The Packers are indeed in need of an additional pass rusher, and a flexible player like Tuimoloau might be precisely what Green Bay requires. Tuimoloau spent four seasons with Ohio State, joining in 2021 and demonstrating consistent growth each year before his breakout in 2024.
Overall, the Edgewood, Washington native accumulated 144 tackles, 45 tackles for loss, and 23.5 sacks during his time in Columbus. We will see if Tuimoloau remains available long enough for the Packers to secure him with the 54th overall pick.
