Saahdiq Charles, a former offensive lineman for the Washington Commanders, has ended his nearly two-year retirement and is now scheduled for a workout with the Dallas Cowboys, a team in the same division. Mike Garafolo from NFL Network broke the news on Friday afternoon.

Drafted in the fourth round by the Commanders in 2020, Charles was initially projected to be picked much earlier due to his talent, but concerns about his character led teams to pass him over. During his college years at Louisiana State University, he faced a suspension for breaching team regulations, which sidelined him for non-conference games.

However, he returned to contribute to the team’s National Championship win against Clemson. While at LSU, Charles played alongside notable players like Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson, and Ja’Marr Chase, and the LSU offensive line was honored with the Joe Moore Award as the top offensive line in the country. Despite his suspension affecting his draft position, Charles managed to turn things around with the Commanders, starting 10 games in his fourth year.

Last year, he joined the Tennessee Titans as a free agent and was expected to start at right guard, but he unexpectedly retired five weeks into training camp, missing the entire season. Recently, Charles reversed his retirement and was released by the Titans, making him a free agent. He now hopes to join the Cowboys, who are in need of a replacement for the recently retired Zack Martin.

Currently, Dallas is considering “bar fighter” Brock Hoffman for the right guard position, and they’ve also signed Rob Jones, a former starter in Miami. At 6-foot-4 and 320 pounds, the 25-year-old Charles has a strong background and a chance to succeed if he and the Cowboys can reach an agreement.
