The Dallas Cowboys are set to introduce a transformed defense for the 2025 NFL season with Matt Eberflus stepping in as the new defensive coordinator under Brian Schottenheimer. One player eager to collaborate with Eberflus is the up-and-coming linebacker DeMarvion Overshown.
Unfortunately, Overshown will miss the start of the season as he continues his recovery from a severe knee injury that abruptly ended his promising season. After missing his rookie year due to an ACL tear during training camp, Overshown suffered tears to his ACL, MCL, and PCL, undergoing surgery to repair these ligaments in December 2024.
In an interview with DallasCowboys.com, Overshown shared his hopes for his role in Eberflus’ system, indicating high aspirations. He mentioned taking mental reps to stay prepared, with Eberflus envisioning him eventually leading the defense and achieving All-Pro status, or even being considered for Defensive Player of the Year.
“Our main focus is ensuring I’m ready when I’m healthy,” he remarked about his discussions with Eberflus. “The key point has been staying involved, even if it’s just setting up cones and doing mental exercises. His vision for me includes running his defense. I know my goals and what will elevate my game. We’ve discussed areas for improvement that could make me not just a Pro Bowler, but an All-Pro and a candidate for Defensive Player of the Year someday.”
Before his injury, Overshown tallied 90 tackles, five sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, an interception, and a touchdown. If he can return to his pre-injury performance upon returning to the field and grow into the role he and Eberflus have envisioned, the Dallas Cowboys’ defense could make significant strides toward reclaiming their status as one of the league’s elite defensive squads.
