On Thursday, April 3, the Dallas Cowboys made a significant move by trading for New England Patriots quarterback Joe Milton III, along with a seventh-round draft pick, in exchange for a fifth-round selection.
This transaction brought a younger quarterback to back up Dak Prescott, filling the gap left by Cooper Rush, who has joined the Baltimore Ravens. Milton recently expressed his thoughts about joining the Cowboys. In an April 4 interview with Tommy Yarrish from the Dallas Cowboys’ organization, Milton shared his excitement about coming to Dallas and his admiration for Prescott.
Joe Milton expressed that joining the Cowboys is a ‘Blessing.’ During the conversation, Milton was enthusiastic about his new team, describing the trade as a dream come true. “It’s fantastic, a true blessing,” the 25-year-old quarterback remarked about the deal. “This was a decision discussed with my team, and we managed to make it happen with the Cowboys, so it’s truly a blessing to be here.”
With Prescott as the starting quarterback, Milton had high praise for him. He conveyed a strong message of respect and admiration for Prescott. “It’s incredible. He’s an outstanding person,” the sixth-round draft pick commented. He further added, “This is only my second encounter with him, but just being in his presence, I can feel the positive energy he exudes, and I am eager to learn from him and compete.”
Milton spent just one season with the Patriots, having been the second quarterback selected by the team last season, alongside Drake Maye. Milton mentioned he gained substantial knowledge during that year with the Patriots and is prepared to contribute his skills to the Cowboys.
“I developed significantly during my rookie year. Football remains football, and my focus is on enjoying what I do best – playing the game and bonding with my teammates, learning about them,” Milton explained. “Now, as a Cowboy, I’m excited to meet my teammates and engage in new experiences with them.”
Milton’s sole appearance with the New England Patriots came in the final game of the 2024 season. In that match, he completed 22 of 29 passes for 241 yards, scoring a touchdown and leading the team to a 23-16 victory over the Buffalo Bills.
Reflecting on his upcoming games with the Cowboys, Milton plans to draw from this experience and his football journey through high school and college. “Approach the game with the same mindset you had in college or high school,” Milton advised. “Prepare diligently as if you’re always the starter and be ready to perform when called upon.”
On a personal note, Milton is reportedly a fan of “Call of Duty,” but his primary focus remains football. “I’m laid-back and composed,” Milton affirmed. “I enjoy having fun and am deeply passionate about football. I play Call of Duty occasionally and just love being myself. You’ll often catch me smiling and making the most of my time with my teammates.”
