Of all people, Aaron Rodgers has given Dallas a golden opportunity in the NFL Draft. Fans were surprised to learn that it was…-lucky

It probably goes without saying that Dallas Cowboys fans weren’t heartbroken when Aaron Rodgers left the Green Bay Packers. Not to unearth buried bad memories, but Rodgers has authored multiple thrilling playoff wins over Dallas in his career.

That didn’t stop the Packers from blowing the doors off AT&T Stadium in the 2023 playoffs, but you get the point.

In that same vein, Cowboys fans most definitely enjoyed Rodgers’ disastrous NY Jets tenure, which ended this offseason via an unceremonious release. The Jets won more games two years ago with draft bust Zach Wilson than they did with Rodgers last season.

Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show on Thursday, Rodgers unintentionally may have provided the Cowboys with a no-brainer trade in next week’s NFL Draft.

Still a free agent, Rodgers doesn’t sound anywhere close to making a decision on his NFL future. He even left retirement on the table.

“I wasn’t stringing anybody along, I wasn’t holding anybody hostage… Retirement could still be a possibility, but right now, my focus is still on my personal life,” Rodgers said.

AARON RODGERS TO THE DALLAS COWBOYS… COULD IT HAPPEN???

Rodgers made it clear he’s navigating happenings in his personal life, which are understandably taking precedence over his football future.

That is commendable, which can’t often be said about Rodgers, but it leaves the Pittsburgh Steelers in complete and utter limbo before the draft next Thursday. By sheer process of elimination, the Steelers have been pegged as the favorites to sign the four-time MVP.

That there is no end in sight to Rodgers’ free agency, the Steelers might have no other choice but to turn the page and select a quarterback, potentially as high as the first round. They only have Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson, both lifetime backups, on the roster.

With that in mind, Pittsburgh cannot afford to sit around and hope that Rodgers will sign with them once he’s ready to make a decision. The urgency to add a QB might be so pressing that they contemplate trading up to take Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders.

The Steelers have the No. 21 pick. If they want to jump up to No. 12, Dallas should jump at the opportunity.

Moving up nine spots could net America’s Team a 2026 second-round pick (Pittsburgh traded its 2025 second for D.K. Metcalf) and a 2025 fourth-round pick in addition to the 21st pick.

The Cowboys do not have a fourth-round pick this year. There is an enormous gap between their third-round pick (No. 76 overall) and their first pick on day three (No. 149 overall). A lot of quality will come off the board in that span.

A trade within those parameters would allow Dallas to drat a receiver like Emeka Egbuka or Luther Burden at No. 21, assuming Tetairoa McMillan and Matthew Golden are off the board, and pick up a fourth-round pick that they lost when they traded for Jonathan Mingo.
