The Thunder promptly waived Walker, who then caught on with the New York Knicks. However, the Knicks gave up on Walker not too long after the 2021-22 season started, and he was traded to the Detroit Pistons the following offseason, who also waived him shortly after.

Following a brief stint with the Dallas Mavericks the next season, Walker’s time as an NBA player was over. However, Walker is far from done with basketball.

NBA Insider Chris Haynes revealed that Walker has agreed to play in Ice Cube’s Big 3 for the 2025 season.

Walker joins a long list of Celtics alumni who have played in the Big 3, including Tony Allen, Carlos Arroyo, Marcus Banks, Leandro Barbosa, Chauncey Billups, Keith Bogans, Jordan Crawford, Glen Davis, Ricky Davis, Ryan Gomes, Gerald Green, Ryan Hollins, Mike James, Al Jefferson, Amir Johnson, Joe Johnson, Patrick O’Bryant, Jermaine O’Neal, Nate Robinson, and Jason Terry.

In his first year with the Celtics, Walker made the All-Star team while averaging 20.4 points, 4.8 assists, and 3.9 rebounds while shooting 42.5% from the field and 38.1% from three. Knee issues were ultimately what did him in, and his inability to stay on the court prompted the Celtics to trade him.

Since retiring from professional basketball in 2024, Walker has been a player enhancement coach for his original team, the Charlotte Hornets.
