Braves Trade for Veteran Reliever Scott Blewett to Bolster Struggling Bullpen

The Atlanta Braves are taking steps to reinforce their bullpen, acquiring veteran right-handed reliever Scott Blewett from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for cash considerations, the team announced.

To make room on the roster, Atlanta designated left-hander Jose Suarez for assignment.

Blewett, 29, is in his fifth big league season and has made four appearances so far in 2025—two with the Orioles and two with the Minnesota Twins. He’s posted an impressive 1.00 ERA over nine innings, allowing just one earned run while striking out 11 and walking only one.

He was solid in 2024 as well, pitching in 12 games for the Twins with a 1.77 ERA and 18 strikeouts over 20 1/3 innings.

The move comes as Atlanta looks to improve a bullpen that has struggled early this season. The Braves currently rank 23rd in the majors with a 4.36 team ERA and have converted just four of seven save chances.

Following a slow 8–13 start that has them at the bottom of the NL East, the Braves are hoping Blewett can help stabilize the late innings. They’ll return to action on Monday, April 21, when they open a home series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
