Lions fan says he 'got caught up in the moment' in exchange with Matt LaFleur - Yahoo Sports

Fahad Yousif, a Lions season-ticket holder somewhat admitted he was in the wrong when explaining to WXYZ-TV channel 7 that he was “caught up in the moment” when he gave a throat-slash gesture to LaFleur and Packers players while on the sidelines, waiting to carry the flag out for the national anthem before Detroit’s 34-31 victory over the Packers.

“We’re about 5, 10 yards away from the sideline just kind of looking at all the players, definitely letting them know you’re going down, you’re done, it’s over, let them know we’re gonna beat you two times, once home, once here and (LaFleur) didn’t like that,” Yousif said to in a story on the TV station’s website. “Once I did the throat slash, he absolutely lost it, which I understand. I mean, I got caught up in the moment, and the fans, and the adrenaline and stuff, but it was madness.”

While the episode quickly went viral Thursday night, his moment didn’t last long.

Yousif was asked to leave the field after getting into the exchange with LaFleur. He also said Lions officials requested that he leave Ford Field before halftime.

LaFleur thought stadium staff should have stepped in earlier.

“I thought it was an arrogant fan that wanted to get a part of the action,” LaFleur said. “I would like to see security, or something step in there and get them out of there. Because it’s – he shouldn’t be doing that.”

While Yousif claims he meant no harm during the shouting match, he admitted he should have handled his seconds of fame on the field differently.

“I love the Lions. The moment, I got caught up in it. I do feel a little bit like maybe I may have embarrassed some fans and the organization,” Yousif said. “But that is not my intentions at all. I absolutely love the team. I’m sad it worked out this way, but I’m glad we got that win.”
