Green Bay Packers enthusiasts might not recall Isaac Yiadom’s name. This seasoned defensive back was part of the Packers’ roster in 2021, after beginning his NFL journey with the Denver Broncos for two years and then the New York Giants for one.
With the Packers, Yiadom concentrated on special teams, playing 75% of the snaps in that area and recording 10 total tackles across 16 games. Following his brief tenure in Green Bay, Yiadom moved on to play for the Houston Texans, New Orleans Saints, and San Francisco 49ers. Last season, he was with the 49ers but decided to leave the Bay Area, securing a three-year, $9 million deal with the Saints.
Returning to New Orleans could be promising for Yiadom, as he might earn a starting spot in 2025. However, a significant twist affected Yiadom and Saints fans on Saturday, with immediate implications for the upcoming season. Derek Carr, the Saints’ quarterback, surprisingly announced his retirement from the NFL.
The 34-year-old quarterback had been battling a shoulder injury that necessitated surgery, which would have sidelined him for the 2025 season. Ian Rapoport from NFL Network revealed that Carr attempted injections and rehabilitation for his shoulder, but these measures were insufficient, necessitating another surgical procedure. Both Yiadom and Saints supporters were likely caught off guard by Carr’s decision.
Many anticipated he might miss the entire season or part of the 2025 campaign. However, New Orleans drafting Tyler Shough in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft probably marked the end of Carr’s era, one way or another. The former Packers player will aim for a successful 2025 season in New Orleans, though it’s uncertain with a new head coach in Kellen Moore and a potential rookie quarterback taking the lead.
