The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are suddenly at the top of the NFC South moving back into sole possession of first place in the division for the first time since Week Four.

The Buccaneers made the biggest jump of any team in the NFC standings in Week 14, with their win moving them from eighth place into fourth in the NFC playoff picture.

Atlanta has self-destructed as of late, but still beat Tampa Bay twice, so the Bucs will have to have a strong finish to the season to secure a spot in the playoffs.

While Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers offense has been the bright spot as of late, Todd Bowles’ defense has struggled throughout the year and injuries have made it even harder on that side of the ball.

Tampa Bay lost starting CB Antoine Winfield Jr. on Sunday adding to a laundry list of injured players who won’t be available as the Bucs attempt to make a push for the postseason.

On Tuesday, they added a linebacker with Pro Bowl experience which will help with depth as the Buccaneers continue to attempt to string together wins for a chance to play in January.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Buccaneers were adding former Pro Bowl linebacker Deion Jones, signing him to their practice squad.

Jones had his best NFL season with the Atlanta Falcons in 2017 where he led the team with 138 combined tackles (91 solo) and also recorded ten pass deflections, three interceptions, and a sack in 16 games and starts.

In his NFL career, which has included stops with the Falcons, Bills, Panthers and Browns, Jones has 731 tackles, 53 pass deflections, 13 interceptions, 12 sacks, 5 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers need depth at defense and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Jones is elevated to the 53-man roster sooner rather than later.
