Brevin Jordan Set for Bigger Role in Texans’ Offense This Season
As the Houston Texans continue to rise as one of the NFL’s most promising young teams, tight end Brevin Jordan appears poised to take on a significantly larger role in 2025. Entering his fourth season, the former Miami standout is finally positioned to become a key contributor in a Texans offense led by breakout quarterback C.J. Stroud.
Jordan, 24, has spent the early years of his career developing behind veterans and battling through depth chart competition and occasional injuries. But with Dalton Schultz’s departure in free agency and the Texans offense evolving under coordinator Bobby Slowik, Jordan is now the favorite to step in as Houston’s top tight end.
“I’ve been waiting for this opportunity,” Jordan told reporters during offseason workouts. “I’ve learned a lot over the past few seasons, and now I’m ready to take the next step — not just as a player, but as a leader in this locker room.”
Capitalizing on Momentum
Jordan has turned heads throughout offseason training activities and early minicamp sessions. Reports from camp describe him as faster, more focused, and more in sync with quarterback C.J. Stroud than ever before. In 7-on-7 drills, Jordan has consistently found space against linebackers and safeties, showcasing his improved route running and strong hands.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans praised Jordan’s progress, saying:
“Brevin’s playing with a different level of confidence. He’s always had the talent, but now he’s putting it all together. We’re excited about the role he’s going to play for us this season.”
Jordan has reportedly spent the offseason working on his blocking technique and film study, determined to become a true every-down tight end — capable of contributing in both the run game and as a receiving threat.
Built Chemistry with C.J. Stroud
A key component to Jordan’s expanded role is the growing chemistry with quarterback C.J. Stroud. As Stroud enters his second season after a historic rookie campaign, having reliable targets is more important than ever. Jordan, who often trained with Stroud during the offseason, has emerged as one of the young quarterback’s trusted options.
“He’s a guy I know I can count on,” Stroud said. “Brevin knows where to be, he’s smart, and he’s physical after the catch. He’s gonna help us win a lot of games.”
The Texans’ offensive system emphasizes versatility, and Jordan fits that mold perfectly. His ability to line up in multiple positions — in-line, in the slot, or even out wide — gives the Texans flexibility in their formations and mismatches against opposing defenses.
Opportunity from Vacancy
The departure of Dalton Schultz to free agency created a clear opening for Jordan to step up. While the team does have other tight ends like Teagan Quitoriano and rookie Jacob Warren, Jordan’s blend of experience and athleticism makes him the most complete option.
Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik hinted at an increased role for Jordan this season.
“Brevin gives us a lot of options — we can move him around, get creative, and use him as a mismatch weapon. He’s got the tools and the mentality to be a real difference-maker.”
In 2024, Jordan appeared in 13 games and posted modest numbers — 23 catches for 289 yards and 2 touchdowns — but his efficiency and explosiveness stood out. With more snaps and targets expected, Jordan could easily double those numbers in 2025.
Mindset and Maturity
Jordan’s journey has been one of growth. Drafted in the fifth round in 2021, he entered the league with potential but needed time to develop. Now, he’s matured into a player ready to embrace responsibility and leadership. Teammates have praised his work ethic and energy in the locker room.
“This year is personal for me,” Jordan said. “Not because of what anyone else says, but because I know what I can do. I want to be part of what’s happening here in Houston — we’re building something special.”
A Pivotal Season Ahead
As the Texans prepare to challenge for the AFC South title and a deep playoff run, every piece of the offense matters. While the spotlight shines on stars like Stroud, Nico Collins, and Tank Dell, Brevin Jordan might be the X-factor that adds another layer to Houston’s already explosive offense.
If Jordan can stay healthy and consistent, he may not just have a bigger role — he could have a breakout season.
