Tigers staff member makes shocking gesture at TV camera after collapsing on the field during MLB game
A Detroit Tigers grounds crew staffer had a moment to forget on Wednesday night as he made a crude gesture on live TV following an injury.
The staffer went down with an injury between the seventh and eighth innings at Comerica Park, with NBC Sports Bay Area’s cameras filming him as he received medical treatment on the ground.
That upset the employee and he then raised his middle finger toward the camera, before the broadcast cut to a wide shot of the field.
‘Can’t do that,’ a Giants broadcaster on NBC Sports Bay Area said.
The staffer had several trainers attending to him as he sat on the ground in the infield dirt.
And according to Tigers first baseman Colt Keith, who was right near the injury when it occurred, the young man suffered a gruesome knee injury.
‘It was pretty gross. I saw his kneecap on the side of his knee,’ Keith said, via MLive’s Evan Woodbery.
‘He was screaming. I saw them pop it back in. I hope he’s all right.’
Ultimately, the Tigers held off the Giants on the night as the hosts edged out a 4-3 win over San Francisco.
The majority of the game’s runs came in the fifth inning, when the Giants’ Heliot Ramos hit a three-run home run before the Tigers responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Brenan Hanifee was the winning pitcher for Detroit, while Tommy Kahnle got the save.
Detroit improved to 37-20 with the win.

Miami Marlins rookie Ronny Simon suffered through a rough day at the office against the San Diego Padres on Tuesday evening and broke down in tears.
Simon was playing second base for the struggling Marlins when he committed multiple errors – leading to his eventual replacement.
The game began with the Marlins scoring six runs in the first inning. Simon plated one of those runs with a single to go up 4-0. He’d eventually make his way around the bases to be the sixth run of the night.
But things started to fall apart in the second inning when Simon misplayed a routine single from San Diego’s Tyler Wade.
The ball went in, then out of Simon’s glove as it trickled away from him and toward the stands, allowing a run to score.
