As the only team to reach the 40-win milestone thus far, the Detroit Tigers are currently the most exciting team in baseball. Prior to Friday’s game against the Chicago Cubs, the team made three roster changes throughout its stellar campaign.

Outfielder Jahmai Jones will be called up to the major leagues by the Tigers, Detroit announced. The team designated outfielder Akil Baddoo for assignment and optioned infielder/outfielder Andy Ibañez to Triple-A in order to clear space on the roster.

Jahmai Jones, an OF from Triple-A Toledo, has been chosen. Andy Ibáñez, an INF/OF, has been optioned to Triple-A. OF Akil Baddoo has been designated for assignment in order to create space for Jones on the 40-man roster.

Since the 2020 season, 27-year-old Jones has been in and out of the major leagues. He will play for five different teams during his career, including the Tigers. He has also played for the New York Yankees, Milwaukee Brewers, Baltimore Orioles, and Los Angeles Angels. Since he had a career, his offensive numbers are nothing to brag about. 25 hits, one home run, 11 RBIs, a batting average of 198, and an OBP of.257.

Jones does, however, contribute some strong outfield defensive abilities. With him on the field, the Tigers can at least continue to play defense. Given how successful the offense has been in Detroit, the team can probably sacrifice some offensive production at one of the lineup positions to strengthen the defense when necessary.

At 7:10 p.m. EST on Friday, the Tigers will play the Cubs. It is not anticipated that Jones will start this game. However, he ought to get more chances in the future. Jones is more likely to play anytime the regular starters need a reprieve.

The first game of a three-game series against the Cubs begins on Friday. After splitting their previous series with the Chicago White Sox 2-2, the Tigers will be hoping to go at least 2-1.
