Texans WR Nico Collins Says NFL Fined Him After Touching Gesture with Fan. – VC

The NFL has been quite liberal in handing out fines this season.

Some of the biggest punishments handed out this season include the $66,666 fine to Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman for impermissible use of a helmet, matching $45,020 fines to Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley and Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs for impermissible use of a helmet, and a $31,599 fine to Cincinnati Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase for verbal or non-physical offense against an official.

Houston Texas receiver Nico Collins wasn’t quite fined that much, but he did recently disclose that the league disciplined him for quite a nonsensical reason: tossing a football to a fan after he scored a touchdown in Houston’s 32-27 loss to the Tennessee Titans in Week 12.

The fine for players tossing a ball into the stands is $7,878.

“It’s for the kids,” Collins told reporters on Thursday. “I seen he was screaming and was thinking, ‘Here you go, big dog. Here’s the ball. … I guess they think you’re going to poke somebody in the eye or something.

“The only thing that matters was making that kid happy. He ain’t never going to forget that moment. So that’s all that matters to me. It’s cool. I’ll pay the fine.”

Collins finished that game with five catches, 92 yards and a touchdown.

His second-quarter touchdown cut Tennessee’s lead to 17-13. He tossed the ball to the young boy before jumping into the stands to celebrate with a group of fans sitting in the front row.
