Novak Djokovic is not in his 30s anymore so he will have to work extra hard to challenge the youngsters who have started defeating him in Grand Slam events. Former doubles Grand Slam champion Jurgen Melzer is convinced that Djokovic’s 2025 season won’t be like his slamless 2024 season.

Melzer like many, thinks the partnership between Djokovic and Andy Murray would be a success. According to the Austrian, Djokovic cannot carry the same workload at the age of 37 but Murray could help him in techniques he wants to improve.

This season at the Grand Slam events, Djokovic lost to current World No.1 Jannik Sinner in four sets at the Australian Open, then injured his knee and withdrew from his French Open quarterfinals clash with Casper Ruud.

At Wimbledon, he lost to Carlos Alcaraz (in straight sets) in the final for the second consecutive time, while at the US Open, Alexei Popyrin downed him in four sets. The only title he won was the Paris Olympics by beating the Spaniard in straight sets.

Andy Murray‘s first major task will be to guide Novak Djokovic to the Australian Open title. Jurgen Melzer, during the aforementioned interview, implied that Djokovic has become a player who needs someone with a high tennis IQ to discuss his game and Murray, recently retired, can teach him more.

Apart from the Majors, Murray would be focusing on how to help Djokovic tackle the Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz challenge as they dominated all four Majors this season. The 37-year-old Serb last won a Major at the 2023 US Open.
