BREAKING: 49ers Draw a Line in the Sand: The Team Has Removed All Traces of Campbell from the Locker Room, and Bosa’s Comments Suggests… – VC

The San Francisco 49ers are emphatically drawing a line under the De’Vondre Campbell saga after he was suspended for the final three games of the season on Monday.

ESPN’s Nick Wagoner reported that all trace of Campbell’s presence on the team had already been removed, with his locker empty and his nameplate gone, after the Niners essentially ended his tenure with the in-house discipline.

In a short statement confirming the suspension, general manager John Lynch said the team would be making no further comment.

But the players that are now essentially his former teammates had plenty to say on Monday after a bonus practice when asked about his decision to refuse to go in to the game during last Thursday’s defeat to the Los Angeles Rams, which all but ended the 49ers’ playoff hopes.

Defensive end Nick Bosa made a revelation about the events preceding the drama, which made Campbell’s actions less surprising.

“In the locker room before the game, I heard some complaining,” Bosa told reporters. “I was gonna say something. Didn’t because I didn’t want to create more of a distraction, but kind of felt it.

“So, yeah, I kind of saw the foreshadowing, and I definitely didn’t think it was gonna result in that.”

Campbell had started most of the season at WILL linebacker during Dre Greenlaw’s absence from the Achilles injury he suffered in Super Bowl 58 last season.

But he seemingly took issue with falling down the pecking order as Greenlaw made his long-awaited return against the Rams, while Dee Winters also moved above him on the depth chart after a strong performance against the Chicago Bears.

With Winters suffering a neck injury and Greenlaw leaving the game in the third quarter, Campbell was asked to step in, only to then take a remarkable course of action that Bosa believes will make it difficult for the 2021 All-Pro to find a new team.

“I’m sure he’s gonna have a hard time finding somewhere else to go when you act like that,” Bosa added.

“In the NFL, every opportunity to go on the field is your resume, so you’re going to do your best for yourself and for the guy next to you.”

Bosa wasn’t the only one to comment on the episode on Monday, with cornerback Deommodore Lenoir offering an especially pointed critique.

“I just lost all respect,” Lenoir said. “I’m a person that’s going 110% every play.

“If I am hurt and the guy behind me is not backing me up and can’t come in or don’t want to go in, I just feel like he’s a cancer to the team.”
