UPDATE: 49ers Make Final Decision on Punishment For De’Vondre Campbell… – VC

The San Francisco 49ers lost to the Los Angeles Rams on “Thursday Night Football” in a defensive battle that ended with a score of 12-6.

The loss has made it nearly impossible for the 6-8 49ers, fourth in the NFC West, to make the playoffs, but the bad news didn’t stop there.

During the third quarter of the game, linebacker De’Vondre Campbell left the field. It was later revealed that he didn’t want to play anymore.

It’s made for one of the most bizarre stories of the season and has become a clear example of a player quitting on his teammates, coaches, and fans.

It was obvious a serious punishment would be coming his way, and per a statement from general manager John Lynch, Campbell is being suspended for three games.

“We have suspended De’Vondre Campbell Sr. for three games due to conduct detrimental to the team. We will have no further comment on the matter,” the statement read. It was shared by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Of course, the 49ers only have three games left on the season, which means Campbell’s season is over, and he will not be paid for the duration of the suspension.

It likely also signals the end of his short time in San Francisco after being signed as a free agent during the offseason.

Campbell’s contract with the 49ers was for just one year, which means this suspension from the team will be the last time they deal with the situation before he leaves in free agency.

Of course, it’s hard to imagine many teams considering adding Campbell to their roster after this fiasco.
