Former Teammate Backs Star Quarterback’s MVP Bid Amidst Injury.ANHTRUC.

Houston Texans wide receiver Stefon Diggs is making a compelling case for his former Buffalo Bills teammate, Josh Allen, to take home the MVP honors this season. “He definitely should win it; he’s been balling,” Diggs recently shared with NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt.

Diggs left no doubt about Allen’s prowess, remarking, “Obviously, it’s no secret that Josh Allen is amazing.” His confidence in Allen is unmistakable, as he added, “He’s making those plays.

It’s not new to me at all. … (He’s) finally getting that credit that he deserves.

He’s playing at a very high level, I feel like he deserves (MVP).”

Reflecting on the time they spent together in Buffalo from 2020 to 2023, Diggs’ praise carries weight. During their tenure, the Bills consistently reached the playoffs and made a significant run to the AFC Championship in 2020. This offseason saw Diggs heading south to Houston, but his faith in Allen hasn’t wavered.

Allen, for his part, has been an absolute dynamo over the past three games, amassing an impressive 1,020 total yards and a flawless 13 touchdowns with zero interceptions. Among 25 qualifying quarterbacks this year, Allen stands out, leading the pack in EPA/play and holding a strong third in success rate, as detailed in Ben Baldwin’s database.

The Bills continue to solidify their standing as a powerhouse, recently besting the Detroit Lions to boost their record to an impressive 11-3. Clinching the AFC East, Buffalo currently ranks second in the conference, with three games left to stamp their authority. However, it hasn’t been all clear sailing, as they faced a stumbling block in September with a 35-10 loss to Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.

Diggs, despite being sidelined for the season with a knee injury, continues to speak highly of Allen’s MVP candidacy. Yet, he acknowledges Lamar Jackson is a formidable contender as well, noting the dynamic play of the Ravens’ quarterback. Even from the sidelines, Diggs offers a perspective that speaks to a deep understanding of the game and his unwavering belief in his former quarterback’s MVP credentials.
