GOOD NEWS: Steelers OLB T.J. Watt officially returns to practice Wednesday.THANHDUNG

The Pittsburgh Steelers have held their second official team practice heading into Week 16’s rematch with the Baltimore Ravens and got some good news, as star edge rusher T.J. Watt made his return for a limited session.

…It wasn’t all positive news, however. Here’s a full breakdown of Steelers’ injury report ahead of their second meeting with the Ravens in Week 16.

Steelers injury report: Wednesday, Week 16

DNP: WR George Pickens (hamstring), S DeShon Elliott (hamstring), CB Donte Jackson (back), QB Justin Fields (abdomen)

Limited: DT Larry Ogunjobi (groin), LB T.J. Watt (ankle)

Veteran rest day: LB Elandon Roberts

As noted, Watt was officially listed as a limited participant on Wednesday, an encouraging sign for his potential availability on Sunday after sitting out of Tuesday’s session with an ankle injury suffered in Week 15’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles late in the game. DT Larry Ogunjobi also got in a limited practice Wednesday — his second of the week after missing Week 15 with a groin injury.

Now, for the bad news. The Steelers still have three starters sidelined as of Wednesday, including WR George Pickens on offense and S DeShon Elliott and CB Donte Jackson in the secondary. Though Tomlin didn’t close the door for their potential return after each missing Week 15 (and Pickens also having missed the week prior), the further in the week we get without at least a limited session, the worse their outlook is for Week 16. The absence of two starters in the secondary would be detrimental, especially given their upcoming matchup against “Mr. Jackson” and the rest of Baltimore’s high-flying offense.

Given the fact that the team is already on a short week with another quick turnaround for Week 17 — set to play Wednesday, December 25 as one of two games on the Christmas Day slate — it’s seeming more and more likely that the team elects to sit these starters in an abundance of caution, especially having officially punched their ticket to the playoffs in Week 15.
