Viktor Troicki has shared some insights into the team of his close friend and Davis Cup teammate Novak Djokovic as the 2025 tennis season approaches. The former World No. 1 had a challenging 2024 season, despite his victory at the Paris Olympics. However, Djokovic is entering 2025 with renewed optimism.

According to Troicki, this optimism could stem from the possibility of Djokovic working with a big-name coach early in 2025. He mentioned this during an interview with local media in Serbia.

Djokovic has had mixed experiences with high-profile coaches. In 2017, he brought on Andre Agassi, but their partnership ended within a year without much success.

On the other hand, his collaboration with 2001 Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic was highly successful. Together, they won 12 Grand Slam titles before parting ways in early 2024. Ivanisevic is now the coach of Elena Rybakina.

Novak Djokovic‘s 2024 season has highlighted the challenges of competing at 37 years old. The rise of younger players like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz has made it harder for him to keep up. Djokovic has not won any titles this year, though he did secure a memorable victory at the Paris Olympics in the summer. He also dealt with health issues, including knee surgery and shoulder pain, which caused him to skip the Rolex Paris Masters and the Nitto ATP Finals.

Despite these setbacks, Djokovic remains competitive at the highest level. However, 2025 will be crucial in determining his future. Winning a 25th Grand Slam title remains a goal, but retirement might be on his mind if he cannot do so next year. Time is running short for the 24-time Grand Slam champion.

At the 2025 Australian Open, Djokovic will be seeded behind Sinner, Alcaraz, and Alexander Zverev, playing his best tennis. Djokovic’s decision to skip two major tournaments where he was defending champion has raised questions. He has reassured fans that his focus remains on tennis, especially Grand Slam events, but starting the new season ranked world No. 7 could affect his path in the Australian Open draw.

Djokovic is prioritizing Grand Slam tournaments and the Davis Cup in this career phase. He hopes to win the Davis Cup again, having last triumphed in 2010. However, the new format makes this a tough challenge. Last year, Djokovic came close to winning the Davis Cup but was stopped by Jannik Sinner in the final stages in Malaga.
