The rumors have been spiraling when it comes to Travis Kelce potentially retiring after the season. Those only grew louder as on his podcast, he made comments about the Kansas City Chiefs game against Cleveland, saying “don’t know if it’s the last time I’ll ever play in Cleveland, but it kinda felt like I was giving it one last hurrah before I’m done”. It’s clear Kelce is close to retiring, but what he will do after is not. With Kelce though, it would not be surprising to see him get into coaching, and it could just be the place of his hometown.

Kelce just turned 35, and his play for the Chiefs this season has been very inconsistent. Despite all this, Kelce is on pace to play the most snaps than he did through the 2021-2023 seasons. With seeing a further decline in production with just 709 yards and two touchdowns over 84 receptions, despite a higher snap count, it showcases Kelce can’t make an impact like he once was able to. With more wear and tear, Kelce will want to go out while still being able to produce without a full dropoff, and go out while the Chiefs are still at the top, making this season the ideal one to retire after.

With Kelce’s love for the game of football, he won’t be able to step away that easily. Which is why it’s more than likely he gets into coaching. It just so happens to be the Cleveland Browns might be hiring.

Despite the Browns’ owner giving a vote of confidence to Kevin Stefanski, the play on the field after still hasn’t resembled anything to be confident over. The Browns sit at 3-11, and are coming off an uninspiring 21-7 loss to the Chiefs. The team looked unmotivated to play, and made sloppy errors. That falls back on Stefanski. It’s clear the disconnect between Stefanski and the team is impacting the play and locker room, signaling it is time for a change.

Kelce knows the culture that is needed to win and be a championship caliber team. He’s been referred to as a major factor in helping Patrick Mahomes’ development with identifying defenses early on, so Kelce already has that coaching instinct to immediately help the players develop. With a team that will have a top pick to draft a quarterback to replace Deshaun Watson, that coaching factor will be essential. Not to mention, with the morale of the team being low, Kelce is the ideal culture candidate to get the team’s spirits back up and help guide them in the right direction.
