Carlos Alcaraz had a forgettable run at the ATP Finals. He struggled both physically and with his tennis performance, leaving him on the verge of elimination from the tournament.

Heading into his match against Alexander Zverev, Alcaraz needed to win in straight sets to maximize his chances of reaching the semifinals. However, after losing the first set, his hopes were nearly extinguished.

Frustrated after the first set, Alcaraz smashed his racket against the top of his bag. He eventually lost the second set, leaving his qualification hopes hanging by a thread.

If Casper Ruud beats Andrey Rublev, Alcaraz will be officially out of the tournament. If Alcaraz somehow advances, he will face Jannik Sinner in the semifinals.

Typically, winning two of the four Grand Slam tournaments in a season puts a player in contention for the World No. 1 ranking and sometimes even secures it. However, surprisingly, Carlos Alcaraz not only failed to compete for the top spot but also finished significantly behind in the No. 2 position.

Following his loss to Alexander Zverev in the final group-stage match at the ATP Finals, the German secured the Year-End World No. 2 ranking. The 2024 season highlighted Alcaraz’s inconsistency throughout the year.

The World No. 3 won four titles in 2024, including two Grand Slams—Roland Garros and Wimbledon. He also earned a silver medal at the Paris Olympics, though it did not contribute any ranking points.

Alcaraz accumulated 5,500 of his 7,010 total points from these title wins. This means he earned only 1,490 points outside of these victories over 11 months—a glaring issue in his performance.
