The Green Bay Packers are in third place in the NFC North but seem like a lock to make the playoffs. The team could add a Pro Bowler if he is released from his team ahead of the playoffs.

FanSided’s Freddie Boston suggested that the Packers should jump on the chance to add Calais Campbell if it presents itself. The Miami Dolphins could potentially release Campbell if they are eliminated.

“Campbell almost got traded before November’s deadline. With Miami quickly falling out of playoff contention, his status is once again up in the air,” wrote Boston. “According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, if the Dolphins get eliminated, waiving Campbell so he can join a contender is ‘still in play.’ Campbell also said it’s a possibility.”

If Campbell is released, he could theoretically be claimed by any team with a higher waiver priority than the Packers. However, if he is released to join a contender, he could simply refuse to play for a team that is out of contention.

Campbell is a six-time Pro Bowler and an All-Pro. He was part of the All-2010’s Team as well. The veteran star has not won a Super Bowl and as he reaches the end of his career he could see the Packers as a team that gives him a real chance to do so.
