The injury bug hasn’t been friendly to the Houston Texans and the wide receiver position throughout the 2024 regular season. Leading receiver Nico Collins suffered a hamstring injury in Week 5, which resulted in a temporary stay on injured reserve from Weeks 6 to 10. Veteran receiver Stefon Diggs suffered an ACL tear in Week 8, which is a season-ending injury.

Houston Texans’ star slot receiver will miss the rest of 2024
Texans’ star second-year slot receiver Tank Dell suffered a significant knee injury after making a diving touchdown catch in Week 15. Tests determined that Dell sustained a dislocated kneecap, an ACL tear, and additional damage. He will soon undergo season-ending surgery and face a long road to recovery. It’s highly unlikely that he will be ready for the start of the 2025 season.
Concerned with their receiver depth, the Houston Texans claimed a Pro Bowler off waivers
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Texans claimed Diontae Johnson off waivers. They will inherit the remainder of his contract, and he will be an unrestricted free agent during the offseason. Houston will play against his most recent former team, the Baltimore Ravens, on Christmas Day and a revenge game for Johnson.
This will be his fourth team in 2024
The Pittsburgh Steelers traded Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers during the offseason. Johnson played seven games in Carolina, recording 30 receptions for 357 yards and three touchdowns in 337 snaps before the Baltimore Ravens acquired him before the NFL Trade Deadline.
Johnson played four games in Baltimore, recording one reception for six yards in a measly 39 snaps. The Ravens suspended him for Week 15 because he refused to play against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 13. The team then mutually agreed to dismiss him from team activities for Week 16 but later waived him on Friday.
