Andre Agassi can’t write off Novak Djokovic but claims the Serb will eventually ‘run out of energy’

Novak Djokovic is the only member of the Big 3 to be still playing and Andre Agassi thinks his ex-protege will soon run out of energy. He hired Andy Murray for the 2025 Australian Open and with tips from the Brit, Djokovic will be contesting for his record 25th Grand Slam trophy.

The Serbian will be 38 next year. So for how long he will be on the ATP circuit? Although he has often said he hasn’t yet contemplated retirement, he has already suffered a slump in his form. The 2024 season saw him claim no titles on the tour, which was exactly the opposite of his 2023 season where he took home three Majors.

A resilient Djokovic has stumbled but got back on his feet in the past and when most of the tennis world started to think that he was spent this season, he got what he wanted the most, which was the Olympic gold medal with a defeat over Carlos Alcaraz. Agassi is not ready to write off the 37-year-old but has predicted that Djokovic could fail in his quest to prolong his career.

The Belgrade native, apart from the gold medal at the Paris Olympics, had reached two finals, at the Wimbledon and Shanghai Masters, which he lost to Alcaraz and World No. 1 Jannik Sinner respectively.

Gael Monfils thinks it’s good for sports when a player like Andy Murray coaches one of his biggest rivals but the duo joining hands also means the Frenchman can’t take a sigh of relief. Monfils has never defeated Novak Djokovic in the 19 matches they have played so he joked that the blockbuster collaboration is bad news for him.

Murray retired at the Paris Olympics, while his last match on the ATP Tour was at Wimbledon where he withdrew from the singles because of injury problems but played doubles with his brother Jamie Murray.
