‘Will This Really Work!’ Fans Grumble as Dan Campbell confirms what the Lions approach will be in Week 17 vs. 49ers…H

The path for the Detroit Lions to secure the NFC’s No. 1 playoff seed is straightforward heading into Week 17. They must defeat the San Francisco 49ers, and the Minnesota Vikings need to lose to the Green Bay Packers.

By the time the Lions face the 49ers on Monday night, they’ll already know if the No. 1 seed is still within reach. If Minnesota wins on Sunday, all playoff scenarios, including clinching the NFC North and the top seed, will be pushed to Week 18 when the Vikings visit Ford Field. Adding to the stakes is a revenge narrative for the Lions after last season’s NFC Championship Game loss to the 49ers. Following Sunday’s victory, head coach Dan Campbell rallied the team in the locker room, declaring, “Everything we got goes into San Fran. Everything we got, man.”

During his Monday press conference, Campbell maintained a similar focus as he began preparing for the 49ers. “We remember what happened last year. We went out there and couldn’t get it done,” Campbell said. “This is a big one. We’re looking forward to it.”

When asked whether the game’s potential impact on standings might affect their approach, Campbell was unequivocal. “We’re bringing everything we’ve got into this game,” he said. “I don’t care about the circumstances or who’s playing. We’re going out there to win, period.”

Campbell’s stance is consistent with his philosophy from last season. When asked about resting players in meaningless games, he previously said, “When the season is over, they’ll get plenty of rest. I promise you that.” Despite Week 18 being inconsequential last year, Campbell played his starters, though injuries to key players like tight end Sam LaPorta and wide receiver Kalif Raymond raised questions in hindsight.

While the stakes this time aren’t as high as last year’s NFC Championship Game, the Lions are still motivated by redemption. Regardless of playoff implications, Campbell has made it clear: the team isn’t taking its foot off the gas.
