Throughout this season, the Buffalo Bills have had to deal with injuries week after week. Their defense has been decimated the last few weeks and they have become a bit of a liability the last three weeks. However, an injury update about the New York Jets might give them a bit of a break.
According to Ian Rapoport, the Jets could be going into Week 17 without the services of Aaron Rodgers who has a reported knee injury. His status is now up in the air for this Sunday. In addition, the Jets are placing rookie offensive tackle Olu Fashanu on IR which will end his rookie season.
If Rodgers is not ready to go against the Bills, backup quarterback and former Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor will be leading the Jets’ offense in Week 17. Taylor was with the Bills from 2015-2017 where he was voted as a Pro Bowl player in 2015 and helped lead the Bills to the playoffs for the first time in 17 seasons in 2017.
Tyrod Taylor could start for NY Jets vs. Bills in Week 17
After the 2017 season, Taylor was traded to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for draft picks that eventually helped Buffalo land their current superstar quarterback, Josh Allen.
Taylor has only seen playing time once this year against the San Francisco 49ers where he went 6/8 for 36 yards and one touchdown. Last season, Taylor was with the New York Giants and he started a good amount of times for Daniel Jones who was decimated with injuries last season, including against the Bills in Week 6 on Sunday Night Football.
In a game where the Bills should have blown out the Giants, Taylor helped keep the Giants in the game and he almost won the game in a walkoff fashion but he couldn’t complete a touchdown pass to tight end Darren Waller in the back of the endzone. The Bills ended up winning that game 14-9.
Fans will want to keep an eye on Rodgers’ status as we get closer to Sunday. The last time the Bills took on a backup for Aaron Rodgers was Week 1 of the 2023 season, when Zach Wilson led a comeback win against the Bills in an upset victory in primetime.
