Matt LaFleur Gives Brutally Honest Update When Asked If $84 Million Cornerback Jaire Alexander Is Getting Closer to Returning to the Packers-bb

Matt LaFleur’s injury report was not very positive about one of Green Bay’s key players

The frustrating season for Jaire Alexander continues.

Packers' Jaire Alexander is thinking big

The star cornerback came into the season looking at having a big year after a bizarre 2023 season saw him miss time with injuries and a suspension.

It has not come to fruition.

Alexander had his first career pick-six in a September 22 victory over the Tennessee Titans.

Since then, it has been the same sad story for Alexander.

He missed time in September and early October with various lower body injuries.

He returned from that injury for a stretch in October, which included him recovering a fumble against the Arizona Cardinals.

He suffered another knee injury at the end of the Oct. 27 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Alexander tried to return for the team’s first game out of the bye against the Chicago Bears but re-aggravated the injury 10 snaps into the game.

He later revealed to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic that he had a torn PCL.

That injury has knocked him out of the last five games, but has not knocked him out of practice.

Alexander looked to be on track to return to the lineup each of the last two weeks when he was a full participant in practice.

Despite practicing in full, Alexander did not play either of the last two weeks with Matt LaFleur remaining vague on his status.

Alexander practiced in full on Wednesday during a practice estimation but was downgraded to limited on Thursday when LaFleur gave a blunt assessment for Alexander’s availability on Sunday.

“I’d say probably not,” LaFleur said when asked if Alexander had a better chance to play on Sunday than he did on Monday against the New Orleans Saints.

Sunday’s absence would be Alexander’s sixth in a row.

It’d be his 19th missed game of the team’s last 33, and 32nd of 66 dating back to an AC joint injury he suffered in 2021.

Alexander’s absence is more likely than ever to be felt this week as the Packers are set to face off against one of the league’s premier receiving corps led by Justin Jefferson.

Without Alexander, it will be the trio of Carrington Valentine, Eric Stokes, and Keisean Nixon set to try and cover Minnesota’s tandem of Jefferson and Jordan Addison.

Not All Bad News

Not all the injury news was bad in Green Bay.

Christian Watson did not practice on Thursday, but LaFleur did not rule him out of Sunday’s game.

“If he’s feeling up to it on Sunday, then I’m going to let him go. If he’s not, then we won’t let him go.” LaFleur said on Thursday.

That’s hardly a vote of confidence, but it’s not a death sentence for Watson’s chances of playing on Sunday.

In addition to the update on Watson, second-round safety Javon Bullard returned to the practice in a limited capacity after missing the last two games with an ankle injury.
