After serving as a rescue horse for over two decades, a giant Belgian draft horse named Big Jake has finally retired. At 17.3 hands tall and weighing over 2,500 pounds, Big Jake is recognized as the world’s tallest horse, and his impressive stature made him a favorite among visitors to his home at the Wisconsin-based horse farm where he worked.
Big Jake was born in 2000 and began his career as a rescue horse when he was just three years old. Over the years, he became known for his gentle demeanor and his willingness to help with rescues and other farm work. Despite his massive size, Big Jake was said to be a favorite among children and adults alike, and many visitors to the farm would come just to see him.
As Big Jake approached retirement age, his owners knew it was time for him to step back from his duties. In 2021, they announced that he would be retiring to live out his days in leisure on the farm, where he could enjoy plenty of grass, fresh air, and the company of other horses.
News of Big Jake’s retirement was met with mixed emotions from his legions of fans around the world. While many were happy that he would be able to enjoy a well-deserved break, others expressed sadness at the thought of no longer being able to visit him in person. Nevertheless, Big Jake’s legacy as a beloved rescue horse and gentle giant will live on for years to come.
