Aaron Rodgers Will Retire and Become the Next San Francisco 49ers Head Coach to Replace Kyle Shanahan

The 2024 season has not gone great for the New York Jets. Instead of improving with getting Aaron Rodgers back, they’ve declined. Currently they sit at 4-11, and it’s clear Rodgers doesn’t have what it takes to be a capable starter in the NFL anymore. It’s time for Rodgers to retire, and enter the coaching atmosphere.

Coming off his season-ending Achilles tear in 2023, it’s apparent that Rodgers is not able to play like he used to. Rodgers has looked severely regressed throwing for an average of 6.6 yards per attempt for a total of 3,511 yards and 24 touchdowns with eight interceptions. He can’t uplift the offense around him anymore, and instead is playing as though he is seeing ghosts. While over the last few games he has played a bit better and looks more aware in the pocket, it’s inconsistent play. With him being 41, it’s time for Rodgers to hang it up from playing on the field.

With Rodgers, he comes with plenty of experience, and most importantly with playing the quarterback position he knows how to lead. Rodgers’ love for the game won’t go away anytime soon after retiring, which is why coaching should fully be on the table to keep him around the game. It just so happens to be that an ideal coaching spot could be coming open in his home state of California.

Players becoming coaches is a much more frequent thing nowadays, and the San Francisco 49ers could be next to follow that trend. With San Francisco being eliminated from playoff contention, it’s time for them to consider moving on from Kyle Shanahan.

With Shanahan, was able to bring a new style of offense to the NFL that coaches around the league turned to and tried to mimic. Yet with as great of an offensive mind as Shanahan is, his offense this season without key players like Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk has failed to adapt, showing a true flaw. With not changing his ways and failing to adapt in games it is leading to Shanahan falling behind as a coach, and has led to the 49ers now missing the playoffs in four out of eight seasons with him as the head coach. It has been clear this season too that locker room issues are becoming evident. It is time for a change, and Rodgers can be that.

With either Brock Purdy or a new quarterback, the offense will need to undergo changes. With Purdy he either needs the help to develop further, or if they don’t re-sign him will need someone to mentor a rookie quarterback. Rodgers has the knowledge to become a coach, and coaching in his home state for the team he wanted to play for.
