Andy Roddick has expressed concern for Iga Swiatek as she begins the 2025 tennis season. Speaking on his show Served with Andy Roddick, he shared his worries about the pressure she might face following recent events. Swiatek is set to start her year representing Poland at the United Cup, where she will play Malene Helgo of Norway in her first match.

Swiatek was unbeaten at last year’s United Cup, winning all five singles matches and leading Poland to the final. However, she has not won a title since claiming her fifth Grand Slam at the French Open in June 2024. This season, she also has a new coach, Wim Fissette, after splitting with her long-time coach Tomasz Wiktorowski in September.

The most significant issue for Swiatek heading into 2025 is the aftermath of her doping case. She served a one-month suspension after testing positive for TMZ in August 2024. The International Tennis Integrity Agency found her to have “no significant fault,” but the case has raised questions.

Swiatek has addressed the situation publicly but is likely to face further scrutiny, especially during the Australian Open. Roddick, one of her strongest supporters since the case became public, emphasized the mental and emotional challenges she might face as the season progresses.

Iga Swiatek headlines action at the United Cup

Poland came very close to winning its first United Cup last year but fell short, losing to Germany in the final after missing two match points. This year, with a motivated Iga Swiatek leading the team, Poland hopes to secure its first title in the competition.

Swiatek arrived in Sydney ready to begin her 2025 season after a strong pre-season with new coach Wim Fissette. She hired Fissette after parting ways with Tomasz Wiktorowski following the US Open.

For the third consecutive year, Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz will lead the Polish team. Poland is the No. 2 seed and has been placed in a group with the Czech Republic and Norway. The team’s first tie will be against Norway on December 30, followed by a match against the Czech Republic on January 1.

Swiatek, who was named tournament MVP last year, is already focused on her upcoming match against Karolina Muchova on New Year’s Day. The meeting between the two players is highly anticipated, adding to the excitement surrounding the competition.

With a strong team and a determined leader, Poland is looking to claim its first United Cup title in 2025. Swiatek’s experience and leadership will be crucial to the team’s success in the tournament.
