The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have to say goodbye to one of their top offensive talents this offseason. Chris Godwin is set to be a free agent, with Tampa Bay unlikely to be able to meet his expected contract demands. Godwin, the team’s third round pick in 2017, has been nothing but consistent since joining forces with Mike Evans.

Godwin will be among the best receivers available in 2025 if he were to hit the market, joining the likes of Tee Higgins. With the Bucs expected to have just under $25 million in cap space for next year and Godwin looking for an annual payment of around the same amount, both sides will have to prepare for a parting.

PFF released their free agent rankings, with Godwin coming in at No.4.

Godwin has consistently displayed reliable hands, dropping fewer than 6% of catchable passes in six of his first seven NFL seasons. He was on pace to maintain that standard in 2024, earning an 85.7 PFF receiving grade through nearly seven weeks without a single drop on 52 catchable targets. However, Godwin sustained a season-ending left ankle dislocation. He is no stranger to entering free agency with an injury, and hopefully, the recovery will be even quicker this time around.

Whether it’s the Bucs or not, some team will end up paying Godwin what he wants.
