The right move: Ezekiel Elliott joins NFL playoff team and will chase Super Bowl while Dallas Cowboys watch ‘from home’-kid

Former Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is signing with the Los Angeles Chargers ahead of the 2024-2025 NFL playoffs, per Jordan Schultz from FOX Sports.

This way, Elliott fulfills his desire of chasing a Super Bowl with a postseason-bound team after requesting his release from the Cowboys a couple of weeks ago. After an underwhelming year, many considered it a longshot for Zeke to find a suitor for his services but now he does.

Elliott cleared waivers before becoming a free agent.

As for Elliott’s role with the Chargers, it remains to be seen but one could easily argue Los Angeles could be one of the best potential landing spots for him as Jim Harbaugh’s offense is likely to value his strengths, particularly his pass pro and his power running.

J.K. Dobbins spearheads the Chargers’ RB room and Gus Edwards is a strong number two, though the latter is dealing with an ankle injury and will be questionable for Wild Card weekend.

With the Cowboys, Elliott totaled 226 yards in 74 carries throughout 15 games played. The 3.1 yards per attempt average was a career low and the third consecutive season for him averaging under four yards per carry.

Despite a below average ending to his run in Dallas, Cowboys Nation might find itself rooting for Zeke for the good ol’ days this weekend. If and when they do, fans might experience a bittersweet taste watching Elliott play in January while Dallas watches from home and plans for the future.

The Chargers will take on the Houston Texans on the road on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. E.T.
