World No. 1 Jannik Sinner was undoubtedly the best player in the world in 2024. The Italian won two Grand Slam titles, three Masters 1000 titles, the ATP Finals, and the Davis Cup in a single calendar year, becoming the only player to achieve this milestone.

However, not everything was positive for Sinner in 2024, as an unfortunate doping scandal tarnished his image. The Italian tested positive twice for clostebol, a banned substance, during Indian Wells last season. Sinner, however, believes that his team supported him through this tough period.

Sinner began the 2024 season unbeaten until Indian Wells. The 23-year-old claimed his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open and won the Rotterdam Open later in the month. His unbeaten streak ended in the Indian Wells semifinals, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz.

Despite a subpar clay court season, Sinner regained his form after the Paris Olympics. He went on to win the Cincinnati Open, the US Open, and the ATP Finals. He also played a key role in helping Italy defend their Davis Cup title alongside Matteo Berrettini.

Jannik Sinner has reached another career milestone. The 23-year-old is widely considered one of the top players in men’s singles tennis. In the 2024 season, he showcased incredible form and dominated the sport. His outstanding performance helped him end the year as the world No. 1, holding a lead of over 3,000 points in the ATP rankings.

Sinner has now spent 31 weeks as the top-ranked player, surpassing Andre Agassi’s record of 30 weeks at No. 1 during his first stint. The season was especially memorable for Sinner, who claimed three major titles. He won the Australian Open by defeating Daniil Medvedev in a dramatic five-set final.

Later, he secured the US Open title, beating Taylor Fritz in straight sets. Sinner capped off the year by winning the ATP Finals in Italy, once again defeating Fritz in straight sets.

Despite his success, Sinner’s 2024 season was overshadowed by a doping controversy. He failed two doping tests in March but avoided punishment. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) accepted his explanation that the banned substance was present in small amounts due to a cream prescribed by a member of his team to treat an injury.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has since challenged the ITIA’s decision in the Court of Arbitration for Sport. This legal battle adds a controversial chapter to Sinner’s otherwise remarkable year in tennis.
