Houston Texans’ HC DeMeco Ryans Praises Newly Acquired WR-HN

Houston Texans: Diontae Johnson – A Key Player for the 2024-25 Playoffs

The Houston Texans have faced a number of challenges this season as their offensive line has suffered a series of serious injuries. With the loss of key players like Tank Dell and Stefon Diggs for the remainder of the season, the Texans are looking for new options to keep their playoff hopes alive. One of the unexpected bright spots has been the emergence of veteran linebacker Diontae Johnson.

Johnson, 28, has seen a full-on action this season. After leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers for the Carolina Panthers, he was traded to the Baltimore Ravens. However, Johnson was waived after just his second game and was quickly picked up by the Texans on Dec. 23.

Head coach DeMeco Ryans, in a press conference this week, couldn’t hide his satisfaction with Johnson’s performance on the practice field.

“I was really impressed with his weekend practice,” Ryans said. “Johnson picked up on the things we expected of him very quickly. He was solid at catching the ball and made some great plays throughout practice. He came out ready to play, and I was impressed with how he maintained his form and professionalism.”

Johnson is a veteran and has been a leader in the Steelers offense with stellar seasons, including a 1,000-yard rushing season. For the Texans, his presence could be a game-changer as the team struggles to find a spark at wide receiver.

“We’re going to continue to give Johnson more opportunities and see how he can help us,” Ryans continued. “His stock is unquestioned. It’s just a matter of figuring out how to get him into our offensive system quickly. We’re working on getting him in positions where he can maximize his potential because he’s a very capable player.”

The Texans are counting on Johnson as they prepare for the playoffs. In the absence of stars like Dell and Diggs, Johnson is expected to bring some much-needed stability and explosiveness to the offense. Johnson’s progress in practice is a positive sign that he could soon become a key piece in the Texans lineup.

With a wealth of experience and newfound motivation, Diontae Johnson could be just the player the Houston Texans need to overcome major challenges in the decisive stages of the season. All eyes are on the display in the upcoming games.
