First Quarter
Jannik Sinner will be the first seed in Melbourne for the first time and is the favorite to win the title. In the first round, he will meet Nicolas Jarry, against whom he is 1-1 in the head-to-head encounter.
Hubert Hurkacz, Holger Rune, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alex de Minaur also are part of the first quarter. Sinner could face either Rune or Hurkacz in the fourth round.
There’s also a possibility of him meeting compatriot Matteo Berrettini in the fourth round. 11th seed Tsitsipas will be playing Alex Michelsen and if he reaches the quarterfinals, he could meet Karen Khachanov or Alex de Minaur in the previous round.
Quarterfinal prediction: Jannik Sinner vs. Stefanos Tsitsipas
Second Quarter
Taylor Fritz had an impressive season last year, having reached the final at the US Open and the ATP Finals which helped him reach career-high ranking of No.4. The fourth-seed could face Ben Shelton or Lorenzo Musetti in the fourth round.
If Fritz reaches the quarterfinals, he could meet Daniil Medvedev, who will have beat players like Alexei Popyrin, Frances Tiafoe, and Andrey Rublev to reach the last eight.
Quarterfinal prediction: Taylor Fritz vs. Daniil Medvedev
Third Quarter
Novak Djokovic could face Carlos Alcaraz in a blockbuster quarterfinal. Alcaraz, who will be chasing the Career Grand Slam, having won the US Open, Wimbledon, and the French Open, will open his account against unseeded Alexander Shevchenko.
Djokovic, who last year was defeated in the semifinal will be locking horns with America’s Nishesh Basavareddy who has been given wildcard. En route to the quarterfinals, Djokovic would have to overcome the likes of Reilly Opelka, Grigor Dimitrov, Tomas Machac, and Jiri Lehecka.
Quarterfinal prediction: Novak Djokovic vs. Carlos Alcaraz
Fourth Quarter
Second seed Alexander Zverev will be bidding for his first Major, having failed to do so in the two Grand Slam finals he reached before. He will kick-start his campaign against France’s Lucas Pouille.
Sixth seed Casper Ruud could face Felix Auger-Aliassime, Alejandro Tabilo, or Tommy Paul, and if he beats them all and reaches the quarterfinals, he could lock horns with Zverev.
Quarterfinal prediction: Casper Ruud vs. Alexander Zverev
Semifinals
Stefanos Tsitsipas came close to lifting the Australian Open in 2023 but was defeated by Novak Djokovic in the final. Although he is 6-3 against Jannik Sinner in the head-to-head meeting, Sinner is expected to win the match. The Italian could meet last year’s runner-up Daniil Medvedev if the Russian beats Taylor Fritz.
Carlos Alcaraz could upset Djokovic again. The Serb is at the twilight of his career and even though he is still a contender in Majors, he would find it extremely tough to overcome four-time Major champion Alcaraz. Zverev, although he has never won a Major, would be the favorite to win the match against three-time Grand Slam finalist Ruud.
Semifinals prediction:
Jannik Sinner vs. Daniil Medvedev
Carlos Alcaraz vs. Alexander Zverev
Final
Jannik Sinner is the heavy favorite to win the title and is expected to beat Daniil Medvedev in five sets. In the other semifinal, Zverev could beat Alcaraz.
Final prediction: Jannik Sinner vs. Alexander Zverev
Both are hard-court specialists but and if they meet in the semifinal, it won’t be easy for Sinner to beat Zverev. Sinner however has shown that he has the ability to persevere against the toughest of opponents and even though he is 2-4 against Zverev, he is could emerge as the champion at the Australian Open for the second time in a row.
