Philadelphia Eagles Lose Former Auburn Lineman Jack Driscoll Before NFL Playoffs

The Philadelphia Eagles have suffered a significant blow to their offensive line depth as former Auburn standout Jack Driscoll was placed on the injured reserve list on Friday. This development comes just days before the team begins their NFL playoff campaign against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field.

Driscoll’s Injury and Season Contributions

Driscoll, who joined the Eagles as a fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, sustained an ankle injury that first appeared in the team’s injury report on Thursday. Despite playing as a backup lineman throughout most of the season, Driscoll stepped up in critical moments. He played in all 17 games of the regular season, including a full 68 snaps at right tackle during the Eagles’ 20-13 victory over the New York Giants last Sunday. This game saw many of the team’s starters resting in preparation for the playoffs.

Over his NFL career, Driscoll has showcased versatility by appearing in 67 regular-season games and four playoff contests. He has started nine games at right tackle, eight at right guard, and one at left guard, making him an invaluable utility player on the Eagles’ offensive line.

Eagles Adjustments Ahead of the Playoffs

In response to Driscoll’s absence, the Eagles signed offensive lineman Brett Toth from their practice squad. Toth, who has previous experience with the team, will likely provide depth as Philadelphia prepares for a tough playoff run.

The Eagles, the NFC’s top seed, have leaned heavily on their strong offensive line this season to protect quarterback Jalen Hurts and open up opportunities for their potent rushing attack. Losing Driscoll, a reliable backup, could test their depth and adaptability against high-level competition in the postseason.

Impact on Auburn Alumni in the NFL Playoffs

Driscoll’s injury further reduces the number of former Auburn players competing in this year’s NFL playoffs. Seven other Auburn alumni are also missing from playoff rosters due to various reasons, including:

  • Montravius Adams (Pittsburgh Steelers)
  • K.J. Britt (Tampa Bay Buccaneers)
  • Jamel Dean (Tampa Bay Buccaneers)
  • Josh Harris (Los Angeles Chargers)
  • Noah Igbinoghene (Washington Commanders)
  • Bo Nix (Denver Broncos)
  • Colby Wooden (Green Bay Packers)

Looking Ahead

The Eagles’ ability to adapt without Driscoll could be pivotal in their pursuit of a Super Bowl LIX victory. With Jalen Hurts back from injury and leading the charge, the team remains confident in their depth and talent.

As the playoffs progress, fans will keep a close eye on how Philadelphia navigates this challenge. Can the Eagles maintain their dominance without one of their most versatile linemen? The journey to the Super Bowl will provide the answer.
