NFL has some explaining to do after sideline interaction between Josh Allen and referee during Bills-Broncos game. HTX

No one likes it when referees are over-involved in a game and one of the more unique situations came up between Josh Allen and Bill Vinovich during Sunday’s matchup between the Buffalo Bills and Denver Broncos. Vinovich’s crew (he’s the head ref) missed a blatant holding call in the end zone on Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain on a 3rd and goal, which forced the Bills to settle for a field goal instead of getting a new set of downs and more opportunities for a touchdown that would’ve extended their lead to 10 instead of seven.

Allen was visibly frustrated with the no-call and could be quickly seen saying it’s “bull—-” on the live TV broadcast.

Apparently Vinovich caught the bad vibe and took it upon himself to personally walk over to the Bills’ bench and talk to Allen about the missed call. It’s unclear what was officially said, but the referee’s body language suggests he’s apologizing for the situation:

There’s really no need for this and honestly, I can’t recall another time I’ve seen something like this happen and I’ve been watching football in fashion that I can clearly remember since the late-90s. There are postgame pool reports that allow refs to explain themselves, as well as statements that are sometimes sent out a couple of day’s after the game. The league typically reviews the calls and if they should’ve been deemed otherwise, the league will admit fault, in a sense.

It’s not the worst thing in the world, but it certainly something the NFL should address, especially considering how sloppy and how detrimental the officiating has been throughout the year.
