Ty Johnson’s revival arc continued on Sunday when the Buffalo Bills welcomed the Denver Broncos for the AFC wild-card round. The sixth-year running back caught a spectacular touchdown pass from quarterback Josh Allen, leading the fans to debate the legality of the catch.

With a little over three minutes left in the third quarter, the Bills were stranded near the Broncos’ 24-yard line on fourth and one. Offensive coordinator Joe Brady decided to take a chance, allowing Allen the onus to throw a pass instead of punting.

The NFL MVP nominee dropped back and threw a deep ball inside the Broncos’ red zone. Ty Johnson started his run as a receiver in the scrimmage line and was among the first to reach the goal area before Allen’s pass connected with him.

The catch looked spectacular on the video, but upon closer inspection, a section of the fans on social media were against the referee’s decision to give the Bills a touchdown. According to them, the ball came loose from Johnson’s grasp as he hit the turf, but more importantly, his feet were out of bounds, making it an incomplete pass.

The 27-year-old was dangerously close to the white line, and the ball appeared to bobble before he managed to control it.

CBS Sports NFL rule analyst Gene Steratore clarified the reason behind Ty Johnson’s touchdown was a legal play and not an incomplete pass.

It was a landmark moment for Josh Allen. He surpassed the great Jim Kelly as the Bills leading touchdown-maker with 22.

The Johnson touchdown very much sealed the game for the Bills. Sean McDermott’s team held onto the lead to secure a 7-31 win and a chance to get their revenge against the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round next week.
