Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin says that Justin Fields is ‘certainly’ a legitimate option to become the Steelers’ starting quarterback in 2025. While Tomlin did acknowledge the Steelers will have a process to looking at the quarterback position and who their options might be, he did say Fields has a legitimate shot to be the answer.

“I think he he took (the right steps),“ Tomlin said. ”I thought that the way that he managed his professional circumstance was really impressive. I thought he brought an urgency to his day-to-day work regardless of his role. I thought he got continually better within our system, evolved throughout the process. I thought the way he conducted himself made that a legitimate thought or idea to structure (of the quarterback room in 2025).”

That is a big-time endorsement from Tomlin, who has repeatedly praised Fields throughout the season. Of course, the Steelers did not start Fields after Week 6 when he was benched for Russell Wilson, so the actions might not speak as loudly as the words.

Regardless, it does appear that Fields could be the answer to the Steelers’ plans at quarterback. From an age, cost, and skillset value, Fields alone checks off many boxes. That could leave Fields as the answer to Pittsburgh’s quarterback situation, but the Steelers do not even know what they will do just yet.
