Aaron Rodgers has placed blame on the media when asked for his thoughts on the MVP debate and how quarterbacks are discussed and debated through their success in the postseason.
Rodgers had been on the Pat McAfee Show and insinuated that the media will soon turn on the loser of the upcoming game between Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen this weekend, with the two quarterbacks set to face each other in the playoffs on Sunday Night Football.
The Baltimore Ravens will head to the Buffalo Bills’ Highmark Stadium with both quarterback’s looking to get their shot at Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, should they advance over the Houston Texans on Saturday.
Allen and Jackson are seen as the two MVP candidates this season while putting up incredible years, with Rodgers not holding back when asked to give his opinion on the race between the two.
Speaking on the Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers said: “This is the problem with sports media… what do you think is going to happen to the quarterback who loses that game?”
McAfee, responded that people will see that he ‘can’t get it done in the playoffs’ – a mantra that has regularly been used for both Jackson and Allen with neither having appeared in a Super Bowl as of yet.

Rodgers continued: “They have both had incredible seasons, right? Incredible seasons. Josh, I don’t know… until the media kinda jumped on the Lamar train… and I don’t blame them because he’s been incredible too. But it’s felt like Josh’s MVP to win, he’s had a phenomenal season. But because they both haven’t won the Super Bowl – the measuring stick for giving somebody an elite status – we [quarterbacks] have to grovel to receive from the media.”
When asked if he thinks it fair that quarterbacks are judged on by the amount of Super Bowl rings they’ve won in their career, Rodgers simply replied: “Who gives a —-? Judged by who?”
Rodgers himself has won just one Super Bowl in his career, coming early into his years as being a starter when winning with the Green Bay Packers back in 2010, defeating Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers. But the legendary quarterback has won four MVP awards, including in back-to-back years in 2020 and 2021 to cement his legacy as one of the greatest ever. However, many still bring up the fact that he’s only been able to win one Super Bowl in his career to date.
