Jannik Sinner and Jim Courier

World No.1 Jannik Sinner apologized after being sarcastically accused of teasing Jim Courier during a post-match talk at the Australian Open. The world No. 1 had just defeated Alex de Minaur at Rod Laver Arena. During the interview, Courier joked that Sinner was making fun of him when Sinner spoke about the benefits of being young.

Sinner’s performance against De Minaur was impressive. He needed less than two hours to win the quarter-final. The Italian secured a 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 victory on Wednesday (January 22) evening.

Just two days earlier, Sinner caused concern when he appeared unwell during his fourth-round match. He was seen shaking and had to leave the court for 11 minutes to get medical help. Many worried he might not recover in time for the next match.

Despite the health scare, Sinner returned strong for the quarter-final. He played at his best and secured a spot in Friday’s semi-final.

The world No. 1 looked sharp throughout the match, needing just one hour and 48 minutes to claim victory. This win keeps his hopes alive for back-to-back hard-court Grand Slam titles in Melbourne.

Sinner showed no signs of the illness that troubled him in his fourth-round match against Holger Rune. His powerful baseline shots and consistent play left De Minaur struggling to keep up.

The Italian broke De Minaur’s serve six times and only dropped 10 points on his serve. Sinner has now won 19 straight matches at hard-court Grand Slams and will face Shelton in the next round.
