A one-hour documentary highlighting the 2024 season of seasoned defensive lineman Calais Campbell will be released. nhathung

If the 2024 season indeed turns out to be the last in Calais Campbell’s illustrious NFL career, he will have exited in style. As fate would have it, NFL Films cameras were present for this journey with the Miami Dolphins. The result is an NFL Films documentary titled “A Season with Calais Campbell,” premiering on FS1 on Wednesday at 11 p.m.

One of the NFL’s enduring legends faces a pivotal moment. #NFLFilmsPresents: A Season with @CalaisCampbell – tonight 11pm ET on @FS1 https://buff.ly/4avqF0t — NFL Films (@NFLFilms) January 22, 2025. One of the most striking scenes in the trailer, and likely the most poignant regarding Campbell’s current situation, features defensive lineman Zach Sieler urging Campbell to “savor the moment” after the Dolphins’ season concluded at MetLife Stadium with a 32-20 defeat to the New York Jets. Campbell then does just that, taking in the stadium atmosphere, perhaps for the final time.

In the trailer, Campbell shares this memorable thought: “I hope to be remembered as someone who cherished the game, who loved it so deeply that he gave his all. And he played in a manner that would make the legends of the game proud.” CAMPBELL’S REMARKABLE 2024 AND UNCERTAIN FUTURE Campbell’s 2024 season, following his signing by the Dolphins on a surprisingly modest contract given his achievements, is one he should treasure personally, even though it fell significantly short in his championship pursuit.

It’s no exaggeration to claim Campbell provided the Dolphins with more than they could have anticipated from a player who turned 38 just over a week before the season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Hard Rock Stadium. Campbell performed so impressively that several teams sought to acquire him at the NFL Trade Deadline, believing the Dolphins might allow him to pursue a championship while they struggled with a 2-6 record.

However, the Dolphins chose to retain Campbell, confident in their ability to rally in the second half, which they did. Throughout the season, Campbell was a powerhouse on the defensive line alongside Sieler, the team MVP, and he also became a captain in his debut season with the team. “What he contributed to this organization this year was phenomenal,” GM Chris Grier stated at the end-of-season press conference.

“An extraordinary individual, his longevity and accomplishments at his age are almost unparalleled. His daily approach, professionalism, it’s indescribable unless you’re around him. He has an infectious personality, he loves the game, his teammates. He wants to mentor players and impart his knowledge. I can’t speak for him, but he’s suggested that if he decides to continue playing, he enjoyed his time here, and we would be a strong option if he chooses to return, and we would welcome him back warmly.”

The question remains whether Campbell wishes to continue playing and if the Dolphins can retain him. Campbell will be an unrestricted free agent when the league year begins on March 12, unless the Dolphins extend his contract beforehand. Campbell has expressed a desire to take some time before deciding on an 18th NFL season. For now, it’s worth reflecting on his impressive 17th season.
