Pittsburgh Steelers Director of Pro Scouting Sheldon White will not become the Las Vegas Raiders’ general manager. White interviewed for the position, but according to multiple reports, the Raiders will hire Buccaneers’ assistant general manager John Spytek to be their next general manager.
Spytek always had the inside track to the job, as he and Raiders minority owner Tom Brady played together at Michigan. In addition, Spytek was in the front office that helped lead the Brady-led Buccaneers to a Super Bowl.
White came to the Steelers in 2022 as part of the retooling of the front office as the Steelers moved on from Kevin Colbert and on to Omar Khan.
Khan brought in White, who he knew dating back to his early days in the NFL. White has an extensive history in the NFL, particularly with the Detroit Lions, where he remained in the team’s front office for well over a decade. He served as the interim general manager in 2015.
White then joined Michigan State as the executive director of player personnel and recruiting, staying with the team until 2020. He re-entered the NFL as a scout for the Washington Commanders in 2021 before the Steelers hired him in his current role.
