SAD NEWS: Ravens Could Part Ways With $97.5 Million Starter This Offseason.THANHDUNG

The Baltimore Ravens saw their Super Bowl hopes come crashing down with a divisional-round loss to the Buffalo Bills last weekend, and now enter an offseason that could be filled with difficult decisions.

The Ravens head into the offseason with $17.3 million in projected cap space, with the prospect that some veteran players could end up on the chopping block. Bleacher Report noted that cornerback Marlon Humphrey, who has been a regular starter since joining the team in 2017, could be one of the top candidates.

The report noted that the Ravens have the potential to create $12.7 million in cap space by cutting Humprey, who has the “biggest non-Lamar Jackson cap hit on the Ravens’ books next season.”

“Unfortunately, that would also leave them short at a position that was an issue this season,” the report added. “Even if Nate Wiggins is ready for a bigger role in his second season, Brandon Stephens was inconsistent and is headed for free agency.”

Bleacher Report added that Humprey is “more likely” to remain on the roster with some kind of contract restructure or extension to spread out the cap hit, but noted that he is reaching an advanced age for a defensive back and could end up being released.

The report named other potential candidates, including cornerback Arthur Maulet.

“So the $2.3 million they can save by cutting Arthur Maulet might not seem like a lot, but every dollar will count as the Ravens figure out how to reload a Super Bowl contender next season,” the report added.

The Ravens have been in win-now mode, adding All-Pro running back Derrick Henry last offseason, and may be careful not to create new holes on the roster while tending to the salary cap.
